I have found a mixture of solid fuel and logs seems to be at least £60 a quarter less than using gas and you get the benefit of a traditional flame fire. After last years bill I found this was ,my cheaper option. My house is a 3 bed semi
what is the cheapest way to keep your house warm in the UK ? Gas prices are just getting silly now!?
what is the technical word for the second hand household utilities that you buy for a cheaper prices?
refurbished.
Anyone know if utility warehouse is any good is it cheeper?
I think you have the option to combine all bills into one bill, makes it easier.
Not sure if it’s cheaper. My dad knows someone who owns one of these companies. Shame he isn’t around to ask.
what are the cheapest ways or most effective ways to lower gas bills?
we just moved into a house (renting) and the gas bill came much higher than i expected it to. 112.59 for one month seemed a bit high to me, and i’m looking to find ways to lower it. we have always rented houses and normally our landlords do all the weatherization and everything, but our current landlords are leaving that to us. so how do i lower my bill?
Make sure loft and walls are properly insulated, un-insulated lofts can lead to extravagantly high bills. Convince Landlord to fit double glazing. If you spend a lot of time indoors then leave the heating on low instead of turning it on and off at full blast. Switch heating off at night and take a hot water bottle to bed. Turn off radiaters in rooms you don’t use much and keep the doors closed. Wear more jumpers/thermal underwear. If you mainly use your lounge and have a seperate gas fire, just use that. Get a dodgy plumber to connect you to next door’s gas supply when they’re away on holiday (may be illegal). Cuddle your boy/girlfriend more. Move back in with your parents and get them to pay the bills.
Questions for UK gas boiler fitters. Is a condenser boiler the same as a combi’ boiler? My exsisting one is
floor standing (in the garage). It heats water, or runs the heating too. Not sure what that type is called, have a hot water tank/airing cupboard.
What should I changed to? Don’t want to change radiators, have 8, various sizes.
Not sure how old my boiler is. Want smaller but economical one. Maybe wall hanging type. Any advise please, including cost of supply and fit? Thank you.
A condensing boiler is one that recondenses the water vapur in the flue gasses to extract the latent heat of vaporisation which would otherwise be wasted to atmosphere. They are also known as High Efficiency boilers. A combi boiler is a boiler that does away with the need for a hot water cylinder or storage tank in the loft by heating water instantaneously within it as it flows through from the mains. A non combi boiler is one that is just a heat source used to heat external cylinder and radiators. Both combis and non combis can be made in high efficiency condensing versions, and indeed by law with very few exceptions you will need to fit the high efficiency version.
Cost depends on a lot of factors but you will need your rads and pipe-work cleaned prior to fitting of new boiler as the high efficiency heat exchangers are badly effected by scale and sludge.
Were UK gas/electricity/water prices cheaper in real terms when utilities were nationalised industries?
Not really, infact they may have been a little more expensive, but at least we were not forced to hear about huge bonuses being paid to clearly incompetant management or to be told that on the one hand they had made record profits and on the other, were forced by circumstances to put prices up yet again! Worse still, the price of oil saw a rapid increase in these prices, the fall in oil, which has been even more dramatic, is making no difference.
Utility Warehouse: Any good or bad experiences?
A friend of mine has become a distributor (which involved paying out £200 up front) and I am concerned that it sounds an awful lot like ‘pyramid selling’.
Please put my mind at rest!
I have my broadband, gas, electricty and telephone utilities all supplied by UW and the only problem i have had was with the internet slowing to a stop …which after a couple of phone calls has been resolved to better than ever …
apart from that …no complaints from me
will my gas bill be cheaper if i turn the pilot off during summer months?
It won’t make any significant difference but could be dangerous if your gas gets turned on by accident and your room fills with gas
Are there different fitments for UK gas cookers?
I am trying to fit my gas cooker but the fitment doesn’t seem to fit in the socket. I have asked my friend to have a look at it as he is a plumber and he can’t do it either. He doesn’t seem to know if there are different fitments though.
Help!!
If it’s a bayonet type fitting, the standard one is 1/2 " bsp.
You can also get a 3/8" bsp bayonet fitting and you will need the right hose for the particular fitting you have got.
Does anyone know of a cheaper utility provider in the UK?
I have recently switched suppliers to www.Utilitysaving.Biz who provide my gas, electricity, home phone, broadband and mobile and it is all on the same bill.
It is around half the price in total that I was paying before but I was seeing if anyone knew of anywhere cheaper as I cannot find anyone anywhere
You are being such a miser. Isn’t that enough what you did. There are a vast majority of people still suffering. Are you a ‘proper’ Brit. I am not but still cannot think more than what I have. If you’re an immigrant, this is the typical problem that has ruined the market. People here are paying taxes and a lot of people aren’t, yet still go for stuff which is nearly free.
BUGGER OFF
Please…we’ve had enough of these queries.
