can anyone tell me how to know the amount of gas i consume, and if it is propane or natural gas(uk wales)?

I say you use about 50 units a week costing between £15 and £20 and it’s natural gas. I based this answer on what I use. I’m in Wales also.

Other than price comparison websites how can i find the cheapest utility companies for my UK home please?

It seems that you need a degree to work out which company offers the cheapest gas & electricity prices.Particularly when you look at all their tariffs & various plans.
Is there a simple way of working out which company would provide me with the cheapest prices currently?

Utility Bill in Georgia?

I work for a company is Asia and my company would like to start our business in the United States soon. The initial plan was, to rent a warehouse with a small office in Atlanta, Georgia. (Probably 1400 sq ft.) I have never been to the U.S. so I have no idea about the cost of living there. It would be nice if you could answer my questions.

1) How much will the utility bill cost you for a 1400 sq ft warehouse? (Including water, gas, electricity, phone and internet)
2) How much do you spend a month on gas and food? (If you don’t eat out too often)
3) How much is the medical insurance? (Basic)

i live in atlanta georgia, utilities- if internet and phone are bundled wil run about 1200.00 a month, business license, about 3 to 5 thousand a year, rent on the space would be about 2 to 9 thousand a month depending on location, about 300.00 a month for basic cook at home food- if you eat out triple that amount, insurance very basic – 500.00 deductible will run you about 250.00 a month for 1 person.

which is cheaper (equipment & service) to run – gas or electric stove?

planning to remodel a kitchcen and trying to figure out what to get. currently, it’s electric (stove, and double oven). usability, easy to clean, child proofing, etc.

i guess the initial investment might not be that significant. how about the energy bill and ease of maintenance? gas leak?

any opinion on gas dryer vs electric dryer?

I work as a delivery man for a very large home improvement chain store. As part of the service, we usually take away an old unit that is being replaced. One observation that I’ll share is that most of the electric units are being replaced because they’re broken while I have never once taken away a gas unit that didn’t work fine. Seems most of them are just "out of style"

UK Fireplace and Gas fire connection questions UK?

A few questions around fitting a fireplace and gas fire. I am well aware that a Corgi fitter is required for final connections/testing, but I need to prepare before his arrival!!

Is the standard method of connection 8mm microbore and what is the purpose of the ‘restrictor elbow’?
How should a marble back panel be ’sealed’ to the wall to prevent fumes passing behind it?
What is the norm with regards to the position of the restrictor elbow ie can it be concealed beneath the fireplace?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you need to consult a Professional.
Not to sound arrogant, but I wouldn’t trust an answer from anyone on Y!A.

Who is the cheapest electricity provider in Philadelphia?

I will be moving into a new house in Philadelphia near center city (zip code 19130) and am looking to find the cheapest electricity provider. It would also be great if anyone knew a way to compare rates of different providers as the house uses natural gas, water, and electricity. I am a college student so I want to find the cheapest utilities possible. Any adive and hel would be greatly apreciated.

You will probably be stuck with PECO, one of the least efficiently run utilities in the country. Lots of luck.

Water is provided by the city. It isn’t too bad. At least you will be getting Delaware River Water, rather than Schuylkill (pronounced "Skookill) Punch.

What can I do to block a 2 story building that is being built right behind my house?

We just moved into this new neighborhood 10 months ago. Behind us was commercial property with a few 1 story buildings that we could not visibly see from the ground. 4 months into living here, a contractor started breaking ground for what is now going to be a huge 2 story warehouse with the loading dock right at our back fence. The building is set so far back from their road, that their back wall is about 15 feet from our fence! it’s unbelievable how close it is. I blocks about 75% of our view from our patio and is almost taller than the power lines that run across the back of the community. I have a 15 foot utility easement to make things worse. That’s half of my yard! Any ideas of what i could build or plant to help block this horrible view?

Obviously a fence would be impractical and cost prohibitive. But a natural fence, now there’s another idea. Pine trees were suggested, and for the most part, that’s not a bad choice, but they don’t grow too fast, and could potentially take up more of your yard because of the spread when mature.

SO… here are some alternatives. I don’t know what zone you’re in, so take that into consideration as well and do some research.

Canadian Hemlock. You can buy them sort of small, and in just a matter of a few years, you’ll have some very tall, nice looking trees to help block the view, especially if planted close together. A nice natural hedge.

Lombardy Poplar is another ‘popular’ choice (sorry, that’s really a silly pun, couldn’t resist). They are very upright, fast growing trees with a pillar growth habit. By that I mean they don’t have a very wide spread. These trees are planted often for a windbreak.

Arborvitae species. An upright habit, not a wide spread, and make a nice tall hedge over time when planted together.

Holly trees. These like acid soil, and you have to have a male and a female to produce berries. These are evergreen as well. There are taller varieties that make very handsome trees and could produce a very sharp looking hedge.

At any rate, you’re gonna have to put up with the warehouse for awhile until anything grows tall enough to do the job. I’m sorry about that. It really irritates me when business do things like that. Used to be builders were a little more considerate about where they built and whom it would effect.

As an example of this nonesense, there’s a homebuilder in our town that bought several acres of farmland and woods, only to cut down the trees, smooth out the fields and build homes. Thing is, in the year or more since he did this, he’s built one house! And he has the nerve to name the place "Fox Run". Right, not anymore it isn’t.

is it cheaper to run a little fan heater in a room for a while than to have the radiators on?

iv not put the radiators on the timer yet to come on in the morning and late afternoons etc..
just wondering if it might just be cheaper to heat a room up with those little fan heaters, does anyone know if it will be cheaper? the cost of my gas bill last year was just ridiculous.

Fan heaters eat electricity for a past time. Expensive to run. I would use the C/H Mine comes on at 06.00 am and off at 10.00 and on at 04.00am and off at 10.00 am and if it is really cold i use the over ride button. Set the room thermostat at 18c
