I have recently bought a house and I would like to have a prepay meter for gas and electric so I can keep on top of my usage. I am currently with Scottish Power but how can I contact them regarding this issue or any other company who will supply and install these meters free of charge? (Area: Oldham, Greater Manchester) Thank you

I used to work for one of the energy companies in the South. They should install it for you for free. Although, it is true, it will be more expensive. I used to work in credit control and understand why some people might struggle and prefer a prepayment meter. However, there are good ways to also pay. Most companies offer a payment card that you can use in the same places where you would top up your key. You can ask to set up a payment plan to pay weekly for example. The best way to do this is straight after you get a bill as this will give you the longest time until your next bill is due (usually every three months). But you have to remember to ask them when you get the bill and set it up on your account. At the same time you can also give them a new meter reading to make sure you are not over or (even worse) underpaying.

I am a transfer student. Will also be looking for a part time job. If ANYONE can help me I would appreciate it. Or if you could even point me in the direction of a cheap-safe apartment complex without utilities.

Housing in Atlanta never includes utilities. Well I cant think of any that do……….The key to picking an apt is the proximity to your school and job. Traffic is the biggest problem in Atlanta and even native Atlanta folks will move when they take a new job as traffic is that much of an issue.
The worst parts of Atlanta are on the west and south sides.

I’m getting ready to move to a new place. I live in MN, so I know the bills will fluctuate. But can anyone tell me how much a gas bill is (winter and summer) for a one bedroom apartment in Minneapolis /St. Paul area? I’m trying to decide if I should take the place that has gas heat (I pay gas) but the rent is cheaper, or if I should go with a heat paid apartment.

Call the gas company and tell them that you would like to know what the budget amount will be if you sign up for it at the new address…

I have a big old (way over a hundred years old) house… my budget amount is over $300 a month all year long. I live in La Crosse, WI.

when I last used my oven, the whole cooker was very hot to touch even the knobs to turn it off was hot, then when I used it last night, the oven would not fire up, so now I cant use it, this is the second cooker that has done this this year, do you think to much gas is coming in and getting to hot that it is burning the thermastat out, or what, I find it to much of a coincedence that two cookers should fail to work in the same place, unless something is causing it, what do you think.

Was this second cooker a replacement under the manufactures guarantee, or is it just another second hand one ? If its a u/g replacement get back onto the suppliers. Ovens have a flame failure valve that go quite often this will prevent the oven flame from going onto full power. If the knobs are getting hot then the door is not closing properly. Put a strip of stiffish paper in the top of the door and close, if you can move it easily then the seal is damaged or the door catch needs adjusting, repeat on sides.

If you suspect the gas supply pressure then this will be evident by the size of the flame on the hob burners, if so contact Transco or your gas supplier. Other than that get a CORGI reg fitter to look at it ( he must be registered for gas cookers)

i changed my supplier to utility warehouse in october 08. now my electricity bills are about £260 each month.. i pay £50 d.d. but they say my meter is correct. i have photoed the meter and shown them it is a lot lower than they say but they don’t do anything.. how on earth can i be using £250-£280 worth of electricity per month.. i live in a two bed terrace.

i would change to a well known major electric supplier like British gas etc, and ask for a Key meter. I have a 3 bed house and have quite a lot of things on standby, and i put £50 on my key every month..
that amount you pay is FAR too high, perhaps start unplugging some things and see if the amount changes, it could be something simple like a cooker ring left on..
Remember to get bank to CANCEL utility warehouse direct debit when you change… good luck

it’s cheaper to pay the bill, prepayment is a lot dearer. my daughter has a gas and electricity card meter and she found herself in debt with both. if the price of gas/electricity prices go up, your meters should be re-set to the rises, otherwise you will find that over time you will be in debt on them. look on the question and answer pages on the electricity company’s web site, under pre payment meters. good luck.

They are trying to cheat you. They will ask you for a processing fee for your application or a visa. Once you pay the money, they say that they just need a little more money for "tax". If you pay that, you never hear from them again.

go to www.rent.com this is where I found my apartment. Rent.com even gave me a $100 visa card as a gift for going through them.

I have connected everything up and all the green lights show up as being connected. However when I click on internet it comes as saying Internet Explorer not found. The line is fine as I have tried putting my old modem in and conneced straight away. Can anybody offer me some advice?

My internet provider is Utility Warehouse if it makes any difference, thanks in advance.

Don’t know what your previous setup was but check IE is not using a proxy.

Other than that check in control panel networks section to see if you are actually connected.

I’ve not got a netgear but my router also needed manually setting up via it’s firmware using the browser.

Have you gone to http://192.168.0.1 and checked if you are connected to your line and all is setup correct in there.(if thats the wrong ip, go to command prompt and type ipconfig, check the default gateway ip and type it in browser)
