is it cheaper to run a little fan heater in a room for a while than to have the radiators on?

iv not put the radiators on the timer yet to come on in the morning and late afternoons etc..
just wondering if it might just be cheaper to heat a room up with those little fan heaters, does anyone know if it will be cheaper? the cost of my gas bill last year was just ridiculous.

Fan heaters eat electricity for a past time. Expensive to run. I would use the C/H Mine comes on at 06.00 am and off at 10.00 and on at 04.00am and off at 10.00 am and if it is really cold i use the over ride button. Set the room thermostat at 18c

Is it cheaper to use Gas heat(wall heater) or to use an electrical heater that you plug in a regular outlet.?

I have gas heat but its 80 dollars to connect it and the electrical heater (radiator style) I plug in does a ok job for now. I’m just wondering will my electric bill be super high.

Gas is cheaper to run per BTU (british thermal units) than electricity for heating (given current market costs). However, the initial start up costs for gas are higher. Over time you will spend more money for that electric wall heater than for getting a gas one connected. Shut it off, go outside and look at your meter, note how fast it spins. Turn it on, and look at your meter again, you will see what I mean.

What is the average price of a Gas & Electricity bill (Weekly or Monthly – Low useage) ?

I’m moving in to a flat soon and I need to know what is the cheapest gas and electricity out there… Scottish Power told me £50 a month for both… British Gas told me £33 a fortnight but if I done it through direct debt and online it would be £52 a month for both. Is this the cheapest it’s going too get? I’ll be living in the flat on my own, it’s only a smallish one bedroomed flat.

Thanks

i live on my own in a small one bedroom flat in London. BG charges me £35 a month for gas only (i have a gas hob&oven and gas c/h) and I pay about 20ish for electricity on a key. The thing is- they only give you an estimate price and the more often you give them the meter readings, the more accurate your bill will be. They can’t charge you for things that you are not using. so if you have overpayed, they will take it off your next bill.

i want to find a cheaper elec/gas/water?

we dont earn much and we are finding it hard to pay for elec/gas/water bills which are £175 month elec/gas and £30 water month

Yes – uswitch.com is a good place to check whether you can get cheaper gas and electricity bills. You will need to have your last year’s bills handy so they can check your consumption and advise you.

As for water, you are basically stuffed as you don’t have an option to change – your water supplier will depend on where you live and you cannot change that.

One option is to consider having a water meter installed, which your water company may provide free of charge so you only pay for the water you use.

Be careful before going down this road. The general guidelines are that if you have more bedrooms in your house than people, then a water meter is likely to save money. But if you have several small children (all wanting regular baths!) then paying the normal water rates will probably be cheaper.

Hope that helps.

How much is your gas bill?

I’m getting ready to move to a new place. I live in MN, so I know the bills will fluctuate. But can anyone tell me how much a gas bill is (winter and summer) for a one bedroom apartment in Minneapolis /St. Paul area? I’m trying to decide if I should take the place that has gas heat (I pay gas) but the rent is cheaper, or if I should go with a heat paid apartment.

Call the gas company and tell them that you would like to know what the budget amount will be if you sign up for it at the new address…

I have a big old (way over a hundred years old) house… my budget amount is over $300 a month all year long. I live in La Crosse, WI.

What is cheaper, buy electricity/gas with a prepaid card or by paying bill?

it’s cheaper to pay the bill, prepayment is a lot dearer. my daughter has a gas and electricity card meter and she found herself in debt with both. if the price of gas/electricity prices go up, your meters should be re-set to the rises, otherwise you will find that over time you will be in debt on them. look on the question and answer pages on the electricity company’s web site, under pre payment meters. good luck.

Bill wise, Whats more cheaper to use monthly? Presto Deep Fryers or using gas from the stove?

Two Choices Financially helping you out on the long run…

What would you prefer to use if your trying to save up on your bills?

The small appliances use less energy , than a regular stove.

What is cheaper Gas for whole house or electric for just 1 room?

I live in a 2 story house with basement and attic. Almost no insulation and old windows. Electric I pay 8.53 cents/kWh with a total of 553 kWh for a monthly average. Gas I use about 100 Ccf Monthly. Not sure on the per unit cost but last winter i after receiving small 60 to 100 dollar bills i got a $459 bill in February. Joined the budget plan and i am just about to pay it off but winters right around the corner.

My monthly budget plan Gas bill is $151 per month and my electric comes out to be $90 or lower a month through the winter and the summer. It a big house and after we received the $459 bill we shut the heat down from 60 to 40 degrees. The time the bill covers we were out of town and turned the heat way down. So I don’t really understand HOW it was so big.

Back to the question. I use one room to live in and use the other rooms almost never except the kitchen and that is just for cooking ramen. So would i be further ahead just to heat my one room and leave the rest at the "Just above freezing" Temperature?
Yes i have looked into Solar panels but just can’t afford to with out a loan and this house i just a rental so I am just looking for something to get me by

It is way cheaper heating a room rather than heating the whole house.

I had a customer tell me that a gas fireplace is more efficient than a high efficiency furnace because their gas bill went down since they got a gas fireplace. Actually the fireplace was only 70% eff and their furnace was 92% eff. but they only heated the room they were in and not the whole house.

With gas prices on the rise, would it be cheaper to go back to coal?

Gas bill came. Wasnt very happy. too high, ive heard many people say that their thinking about going back to solid fuel, what do you think. Bear in mind i would get coal free as im a miner!

sort of – but the pollution would be unbelievable

save the environment and all that – carbon emmissions

Which is cheaper for a house electric or natural gas? And on your bill?

Buying a house and was wondering if natural gas, propane or electric was the way to go.

We use gas in our house and it is much more expensive than many people I know who use electric. In the winter our bills for gas were close to 500 a month (we do have an old house that is big).
