Yikes!!!! Watch out for cockroaches! Ask the landlord to an "pest addendum" to the lease (that allows you to break the lease if you see cockroaches!)! If he has no pests, then he will have no problem signing the lease!

I do not know any lawyers,do you? maybe you can hand type the clause or google it. As long as you both sign it, it is binding. I don’t think you need a lawyer to write it.

Ah, the on campus experience. Good advice from poster number four. I like it. I see lots of college kids "off campus", so much so, that I think the campus is just extended into the neighborhood. Every single house in my neighborhood are college renters. I can count the non college student houses on my hand. Seriously! Yes, I can. Yes! I know this neighborhood. I know the dogs’ names. I walk around dozens of times a day with my little one. (she has to get tired for her naptime!). I know who lives in my neighbor hood! We can hear the parties now… lol… It’s OK. We knew who lived in this neighborhood before we moved in. We did not want to live on the "bad" side of town, and this apt. had the right price, while we search for our house to buy.

Good luck!! : ) PS. Oh, yeah, you can have dogs off campus. I don’t know if you can have dogs on campus. Dogs need a lot of attention, so, hopefully you have roommates to help you out? I don’t know if you like dogs, but I do!

On campus housing costs a lot more, at least here in CA that’s the case and usually it’s mandatory to purchase meal tickets for the cafeteria which was the case for me. I wish I had known this info myself because I ended up not only paying a lot more but having to share a room! So good for you if you plan on renting off campus. The downside is that it’s obviously a greater distance from campus so you have to be more disciplined to get your butt to class so be careful not to slack off and good luck!!

As someone that did both, lived on and off campus, I would suggest staying on campus. You have to factor in all of the other costs associated with staying off campus. Gas is very high and traffic in ATL is crazy! All the rooms are the same size in a campus apartment, so no arguign or having to figure out if the person who takes the larger room should have to pay more. Your landlord really wont care about any disputes you guys may have, however, on campus, there is a liason and you have the option of moving into another campus living area. Also, if you want to live off campus, you should save yourself some money and go to a smaller, commuter school. Get the college experience and stay on campus. In the end, you’ll appreciate it more. You’ve got forever to live on your own.
