Renewing lease should i negotiate cheaper?

How much is it typically suppose to decrease after you renew for another year? we pay 1156 without utilities and now they said 1044 w/utilities is that good or should i ask for lower?

I would not balk too much, usually the rent increases, not decreases.

If you’re staying in your same unit, that’s a good deal. I live in Chicago and everytime I’ve renewed here, there’s always a cost of living increase. However the housing market is pretty weak right now. I’d take that deal.

I’d just make sure that if they’re picking up your utilities, there’s no hidden catch, like you can’t turn the heat up past 60 or you can’t use electricity after midnight.

In my experience I’ve never known a landlord to negotiate cheaper, usually when you renew theres an increase in rent not a decrease.

I’d take it if it’s lower and they are paying utilities you come out ahead. But like the first answerer said, make sure there isn’t a catch with the utilities.

It seems a good deal. I do not know based on what you want to ask for lower rent. Normally the rent always increases.

Make sure that the reduction in the lease isn’t because you’ll be paying for the utilities. It should state something in your lease extension or a separate letter to let you know of the change to your lease terms. At the property managing company I worked for, the only time rent went down is when the tenant was going to be responsible for paying utilities if they hadn’t already. Ask your landlord.
