Shocking. The UK government should encourage eco friendly forms of heating and light, but they are not actively doing it seriously are they? Why? Not much profit for them when we get heating free from the Sun!! They make gestures because of pressure groups, but if they were serious about solar energy they would be actively helping people change their form of heating and light by leading by example.

This is all about greed, and privatisation was the worst thing that caused it too.

Profit is what the companies want
and taxes are what the government want neither cares about the consumer!!

What I found typical, was the statement: "With immediate effect".

When/if the prices fall, it would be months before the cuts were passed on. Market forces or not, what blatant, profiteering hypocrisy.

These prices are now here forever, because as long as they keep building more and more houses, we are footing the bill.We have to pay for all the new pipelines, and new Sub Stations that are required, to enable the expansion, of greedy builders.They are making hay from all the Immigration that is going on as these people have to live somewhere.It is time now for a complete stop, because if not, will we have houses all over but we are losing green areas which can never be replaced, and we need those to help the climate.

We saw it coming and signed up for a fixed price deal with british gas years ago. The thing is with global demand rising and with increasing political difficulties surrounding supply, price increases were (and still are) inevitable.

You have to remember that even if new pipelines are built from new places you still have to compete with increasing demand in that area too.

The shocking thing is that useage is not really falling (which would do more then anything else to keep prices from increasing). Its a bit of a cliche, but if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

I work for a small charity and the rise in fuel prices for buisnesses have been much higher then that. Ideally we would like to improve the buildings insulation, and perhaps have a wind – turbine (the roof really is ideal for it), but its a listed building. Apperently preserving old builing is more important than preserving the planet and keeping the economy healthy! c

British people are cool people because i notice that other people in countries like France, Spain, South America, Asia go out into the streets to protest angrily about high price of stuff in their countries. British only like to talk about these things, so they never get what they want. I think the British people have much anger inside because they keep quiet to themself. ONly the companies are happy and rich.

I think it is distorting inflation. Rising prices is usually the result of gradual changes in supply and demand. However, the rapid increase in oil affects all types of goods and services. This means although inflation is high, which is usually a sign of a good economy, the adjusted inflation might be low. Everyone just has to reduce the resources they use or accept to pay a higher price for them.

When the energy companies give out there profits, will they also give out the huge bonuses for the bosses. It would not be much, but it would help if Gordon Brown through his puppet Alistaire Darling, was to do away with the VAT on house fuel. It's only 5% but this is still £50 off the alleged average bill.
