why gas is cheaper in the us than in the uk?

I would like to know why gas prices are cheaper in the us than it is in the uk.

Bully is right about the Aussie prices. I live in Melbourne.

Consider this: The UK, and Australia, pay higher REFINERY prices and crude prices for petro-fuels than the US. Working in the petroleum industry, I am aware that the the rest of the world has subsidised US prices for decades. The US also pays lower refining costs.

The UK is about 35% self-sufficient for oil (North Sea Brent mostly), and Australia is 94% self sufficient, but our prices are still pegged to the Singapore prices for refined Crude, the second highest in the worls as far as I kow.

We don’t tax our gas as high as other countries do, meaning the government actually subsidizes it in the US.

its cheaper but on average the people in uk use less money on gas then people in the US because of the cars and the driving distances people drive in the us

Here in Australia, Petrol (Gas) Costs $1.55 a litre, Diesel is $1.74 a litre. or close to $6.40 a Gallon. Our government takes around 49% of the price of fuel as tax. (I think it is around that amount)
